DELPHIC CELEBRATES 45 YEARS IN BUSINESS
How it all started
Delphic Wholesalers was formed in 1962 as a partnership between Jack Gregory & Sotirios Geros. It was formed to better service the needs of the many post-war European (essentially Greek) migrants that had come to Australia.
Jack and Sotirios concentrated on importing to Australia a range of foods that these post-war migrants were familiar with in their homelands. Both Jack and Sotirios had traded individually in Melbourne previously in these areas and, as such, brought to the partnership a wide product knowledge and extensive contacts in Greece.
They concentrated on importing a range of Sheep's Milk Cheeses (Feta cheese and Kasseri cheese) into Australia. Initially they sourced these from Greece. Shortly after, they introduced into Australia these same cheeses from Romania and Bulgaria and developed a significant market for these cheeses in Melbourne and Australia.
Pioneers of Greek Olive imports to Australia
They were among the first to import Greek olives into Australia. As you may know, this is now quite a significant market. Diana Greek Olive Oil was first imported into Australia in the 1950s by Jack Gregory together with his father.
Mezap Halva was also imported into Australia during this time. Wet Salted Cod (Bacalao) was imported to cater for the fasting requirements of the many Southern European migrants of that period. These, amongst many other products, have been the backbone of this company over the years.
Grown to become One of the Largest importers of Sheep's Milk Cheese
Over the years, we have again become one of the larger importers of Sheep's Milk Cheeses into Victoria from Bulgaria and Romania to compliment our importing of Sheep's Milk Cheeses from Greece and developed our own brand of a locally produced Feta cheese - Star Feta and now also Yassou. A phenomenon assisting our growth has been the increasing interest in, and acceptance of, Greek Foods amongst the Anglo-Saxon population.
As more and more competitors moved into the traditional market, we have found it necessary to source new products to complement our existing product lines. We have also moved towards some local production of various products that we have trialled in the market.
The next 45 years and beyond.....
 Delphic Wholesalers, a company with its roots in importing, believes that after 45 years, it should make it clear to the industry of its support of Australian products, and their production.
As a company Delphic has heavily invested in the production of Fillo and Kataifi pastry manufactured on site at its Brunswick, Victoria premises.
It also for many years, had exclusively manufactured for it, the hugely popular Feta style cheese, marketed under the name of Delphic star Australian Feta, being available both in full cream and reduced fat.
We have also for many years, sold our very high quality and locally manufactured Turkish delight.
The Mil Lel range of cheeses, has been in our stable for many years, and has also been cut, wrapped, weighed and labelled for retail sale.
We have recently introduced the Australian manufactured Antonio Haloumi to our range.
The latest arrival to our inventory, has been the locally grown picked and packed high-quality Australian Dried Oregano, sold both in bunches and ground in retail packs. We are very thankful that our friends at Iamia Aromatic Herbs and Spices from South Australia that have given us national distribution for these wonderful products.
 We will always sell our traditional lines, however, our mind is also set on giving back something to this country, and what better way than by supporting local producers and helping them in their endeavours and keeping fellow Australians in employment.
